Foundations From an 1830s River Town to a 1950s Reservoir Boom
Cicero was founded in 1834 and built Hamilton County's first bridge over a major stream in 1838; its industrial-era core grew after the 1853 railroad arrival, bringing mills and glass factories whose old foundations sit on the same regional clay till as everything else. The town's character shifted again in 1956, when Morse Reservoir opened after the Red Bridge was removed, and lakefront construction since has brought different grading and drainage conditions tied to the shoreline.
