Foundations From a 33-Lot Railroad Gamble to Today's Subdivisions
Cephas Fort's original 1849 plat covered just 33 lots, platted on a bet that the railroad would come — a bet that paid off in 1852. Fortville's oldest foundations, in that original rail-town core, predate modern waterproofing and drainage standards by well over a century, and sit on the same clay-rich regional till as everything else in this service area.
