Building on Ground Reshaped by a 1943 Reservoir
Geist Reservoir didn't exist before 1941; it was created by damming Fall Creek, and when it filled to capacity in March 1943 it permanently changed the water table and drainage patterns across roughly 535 acres of what had been farmland and the village of Germantown. Homes built along the shoreline since the 1980s sit on the same regional clay till as the rest of the area, with the added factor of the reservoir's influence on nearby groundwater.
Grading Relative to the Shoreline
We pay close attention to shoreline grading and drainage in Geist, since a foundation's relationship to reservoir-influenced groundwater is a bigger factor there than it is on a typical inland Fishers lot.
